Write an article for a popular magazine which out lined the key aspects of physical, intellectual, emotional and social development.

There are five life stages that an individual has to go through in their life time. These stages are the infancy, childhood, teenager, grown up and elderly. In these life stages the individual will experience changes in four areas which are Physically, Intellectually, Emotionally and Socially. It is through these stages that people develop an understanding of life and how to relate to others around them and their environment.

Infancy is the first stage and this refers to the time from the birth of the baby up to the age of 3 years old. After being born all a baby’s needs is met by its parents. They will grow in size as they go through this stage. The main physical aspect of this stage is the baby using reflexes such as rooting and suckling. Reflexes are actions that a baby did not learn but was born with that he or she uses to survive and understand its environment. As children grow older they learned physical aspects like controlling their muscle, they do this by holding objects and doing other movements like raising their heads when lying on their stomach. By the age of 3 they would have learned how to sit up without any help from parents and would also be walking. Intellectually babies and toddlers would start getting used to sound and voices and eventually understanding language for example a baby responding to its name being called. At 3 years old most children already have a vocabulary of words that they understand and are able to repeat. They start developing memory and are able to identify house hold objects and other familiar items such as certain clothing. They are also able to identify different family members as well as people they are not familiar with.

Mothers and their babies share a bond and spend lots of time together especially in the infancy stage and through the time spent babies become attached to their mothers or caregiver. If a baby was separated from its mother or caregiver it would cry, this show that the baby as form emotional attachment. Young children show other emotions such as fear or joy when playing and doing other activities. Children are naturally social able and are always wanting to interact with other children as well as adults those of whom they are familiar with. During this stage children are developing social skills through playing and interaction with different groups of people and for most toddlers over 24 months they are more talkative and are able to adjust communication when interacting with other children and when dealing with grownups. They also show preference for some people over others.

Childhood is the second life stage this is from the age of 3-11 years old. The main aspect of this stage is the advancement of gross and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills refer to using bigger muscle to do things like gymnastic and fine motor skills refer to children using smaller muscles like those in their fingers to pick up items or play an instrument. Their body will experience some physical growth such as being taller and looking more adult like. Between the age of 8 and 11 they are much more independent and are able to dress themselves and do choirs at home like help with the dishes. Brain development increases and now children are able to do more complex activities such as logical reasoning when playing games, although often times they need the object present in order to fully understand. They become less egocentric this mean that they understand things from perspectives other than their own. They develop a sense of right and wrong what is acceptable in society and also what is expected of them. Intellectually a child’s language is more fluent he or she is now able to communicate clearly using words in sentences.
