HEALTH CARE HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Introduction

There are key factors that affect health care practices and human resources management. As a Human Resources manager at an acute care hospital, I have been asked to write a document that outlines the steps I would take as the manager of HR to improve the effectiveness of HRM in this organization. Proper management of human resources is critical in providing a high quality of health care. A refocus on human resources management in health care and more research are needed to develop a properly structured organization. Effective human resources management strategies are greatly needed to achieve better outcomes from and access to health care. In this paper, I will analyze two current trends in health care that are affecting human resources management that may likely impact the hiring decision as HR manager, suggest a significant opportunity for HR to become more of a strategic partner within an organization, recommend a model of human resources management that would be the most appropriate for this organization in question, recommend a strategy that HR could implement in order to develop more effective relationships between Human Resources and the organization’s managers and senior executives, indicating how each strategy will achieve the desired goal, determine a specific employment law that may affect the hiring and selection process at the acute hospital in your community.

Analyze two current trends in health care that are affecting human resources management that may likely impact the hiring decision as HR manager. Provide support for your analysis. One trend in healthcare that is affecting human resources management and may likely impact the hiring decision is the skill gaps. Half of the health care hiring and HR managers admit to a significant gap between the skills and experience an organization needs versus what candidates bring to the table. Another trend in health care that is affecting human resources management that will likely affect the hiring decision as a HR manager is increased workloads and high stress. http://thehiringsite.careerbuilder.com/2014/03/05/health-care-hr-week-diagnosing-issues-matter/ states, More than half (55 percent) of health care workers have noticed an increase in their workload over the past year, with 13 percent saying the difference is substantial. In fact, 1 in 4 plan to change jobs this year. Health care industry employees also had the highest rates of complaint when it came to stress levels and workload, with 69 percent of health care industry workers saying they feel “stressed” in their current jobs, and 17 percent describing themselves as “highly stressed.”

Suggest a significant opportunity for HR to become more of a strategic partner within an organization. Justify your response. Human resources should be defined not by what it does but by what it delivers. As any manager would agree, Human Resources professionals should understand their organizations in particular and government in general, so as to make strategic contributions. Those who can offer business acumen on non-HR subjects will come to be viewed by operating departments HEALTH CARE HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

as credible partners. As a Human Resources Manager, one significant opportunity for HR to become more of a strategic partner within an organization is to show some clear actions that Human Resources can take. These include talent development in Human Resources, creating corporate centers of excellence, developing the right metrics and analytics, and, understanding how human capital management impacts business results.
