Am preparing a business plan for the proposed business concept of ‘Home Chef’. Mr James Harvey who is currently working as a chef in a popular London Restaurant serving a variety of food is considering starting his own business. He is convinced that the London’s affluent customers would like the idea of cooking and serving food at home by qualified and skilled people for special events and occasions.

The following are the aims I want to achieve;

·The aim of my research is to find out if the idea of home chef is a good idea and which areas will be suitable for me to operate in. ·And to find out if the business will be profitable which is the main case of starting a business in the first place. Justification;

The reason for carrying this research is because the use of personal chef is becoming common in America, so I thought it would be a good idea to start in UK. Instead of people buying take away, it will be healthy for them to have a personal chef cooking for them and just putting the food in the microwave to warm it. It will also be less stressful as compared to working in a restaurant.

A personal chef is a chef that prepares meals for a client in the client's home kitchen, based on the client's needs and personal preferences. ( In most cases these meals are left packaged in containers and refrigerated or frozen for the client to enjoy later. Some personal chefs, however, instead focus on cooking for dinner parties and other special occasions in the client's home, which means they are responsible for shopping, preparing the meal, serving the guests and cleaning up afterward. The menu is preplanned and discussed with the client, then prepared in their home A personal chef is distinct from a private chef, which refers to a chef that is employed exclusively by one client, and in some cases lives in the client's home. When hiring a personal chef to provide either a packaged meal service or to cook for a dinner party, a menu and a budget are submitted for the client's approval. Typically, the chef is given approval, a deposit, or (if familiar with the guest/frequent client) an expense account for the menu. The client pays for this in addition to the cost of the chef's services and gratuity. Some personal chefs also provide meal planning and budget planning for homeowners and second homeowners that are busy with their own lives, but insist on nutritious and tasty meals for their families. Many personal chefs also offer personalized cooking instruction in the privacy of the client's home, either one-on-one or in groups. In terms of experience, personal chefs tend to be chefs that have worked in restaurants, hotels, catering or all three. It is not uncommon for some personal chefs -- particularly those who cook for dinner parties and special occasions -- to be employed in a restaurant or catering job full time and only do personal cheffing in their spare time for extra income.

A personal chef service is the answer to great tasting, healthful, affordable meals enjoyed in the comfort of your home without the daily grind of shopping and cooking. A personal chef offers a professional service of meal preparation. A client's individual tastes drive the creation of their customized menu. These personalized meals are prepared in a client's home and then packaged, labelled and stored in the refrigerator or freezer.

A Personal Chef will generally charge for their services based on the number of meals they are providing. Thus for a family of four, if the Personal Chef is preparing five days worth of dinners, this would constitute a "5 x 4 meal plan" -- 5 meals for 4 people, or 20 meals in total. Most Personal Chefs will offer a number of different meal plans, and the fact is that this type of service is probably more affordable than most people might think. And if you are a busy family with two working parents, you certainly know all about the challenge...
